Few places on earth offer the rich history and culture found in New Mexico.

That rich history and culture happened—and happens—in locations across the state. The Cultural Atlas of New Mexico brings all of these together in one place.

Suggest a site for inclusion in the Atlas, and help us identify all the places that make our state unique.

What's in a Cultural Atlas?

Museums and Historic Sites

The essence of New Mexico is preserved in its museums, historic sites and landmarks. Together, they contain the tangible evidence that tells the story of our state.

Cultural Landscapes

Places hold meaning. Cultural landscapes reveal aspects of our origins and development as well as our evolving relationships with the natural world.

Major Events

Events, festivals, celebrations, performances, and gatherings of all kinds are unique expressions of who we are. They bring us together, literally.

Some Considerations

Sites in the Cultural Atlas must allow public access or be visible from a public place. They also must have a permanent location (though, in the case of events, may not be accessible at all times). Additionally, They must be recognized by at least one source—such as a registry, guidebook, or encyclopedia—as having cultural significance.

There have been a total of 348 submissions.
